A level never before achieved in the 25-year history of the scarecrow festival, led to spirited discussion at the judges' meeting.
Sometimes the jury had to make choices that were seemingly impossible and tended to award multiple first prizes. With all due respect for the creations that were not infrequently close, the jury made its verdict. A verdict with which all five judges agreed.
The jury consisted of: José Cruijsberg, Ellen Verbeek, Matty Christensen, Bart Leenhouwers and Frans Mandigers
Nominated for most traditional scarecrow were: Decay (No. 47), by Jolijn Schoof, Code Red (No. 10) by Pascal and Kiek Rouchet/Swinkels, and Cat's Head (No. 8) by Jos and Annemiek.
The winner of Most Traditional Scarecrow 2025 is: Decay by Jolijn Schoof. The jury said about it:
The beautiful natural materials, which have been used, with especially the unique composition. Finding the momentum in the current autumn nature. The fine details, as 1 whole according to the steil of the famous artist Arcimboldo. The care and attention to the detailing, the autumn colors.

The jury: What a scarecrow. The materials used consistently, dramatic. A monster trying to catch the dove of peace, despair in its face. Aesthetically pleasing, elastic, the muscles and a nice ass, the hair braided into dreadlocks. Flying as if he were jumping off the ground. A monument, perhaps a museum piece. This one should never be destroyed.
Nominated for the most bizarrely eccentric scarecrow were: Garude (#43) by Inge and Mark, Ornis (#35) by Noortje and Lieke and Horribly odd bird collection (#27)by Hugo, Fleur, Yara and Joyce Cremers.
The winner of the most bizarre and eccentric scarecrow 2025 is Ornis by Noortje and Lieke
An African incantation. The birds fly around it in a big twist. The scarecrows exudes fear, the toes interlaced. Very subtle the plastic birds That mouth, those teeth, the braiding, you almost get sucked in. The dead crows on the ground, which did not survive.
The vogelverschrikkerfestival has been around for 25 years.
There are people who have been contributing creatively to the festival since its inception. People do so as volunteers, administrators, musicians or builders. Often people who do not receive cups or compliments. This year for the first time we are awarding the oeuvre prize to someone who has excelled for years is the most beautiful creations. Someone who always falls into an outside category when judged. And has been for years.
The Oevre Prize 2025 goes to Erik van Weert and Joke Tromp
Together with Joke, Erik has been creating the most beautiful works of art at the festival for decades. Also this year his creation "the terrifying water lilies" excels in finesse and technique. In addition, behind the scenes Erik fills in all sorts of odd jobs during the festival. Congratulations!
